THE ART OF TROUBLESHOOTING
This is a one to two day class depending on the number of attendees and the amount of review required on basics. It is recommended for students with at least one year on the job.
PREVENT UNNECESSARY REPAIRS
Vertical Divider
Daily monitoring is perhaps one of the most important tasks an operator must perform. It is often considered one of the more tedious as well. This short course provides employees with an understanding of how closely monitoring the conditions of the engine and/or compressor may prevent thousands of dollars in expensive repairs and unscheduled downtime.

SPEND VALUABLE TIME ON THE FLOOR
Vertical Divider
The value in performing the basic “walk-around” of the unit, while collecting data, cannot be overstated! It informs the person of the unit’s performance in real time as no readout on a computer monitor can. Time spent on the floor with the equipment purposely exposes the operator to the sounds, vibrations, even the smells associated with the equipment. These tangible sounds and smells should become second nature and any deviation from the norm should be instinctually noted.

LEARN THE ART OF TROUBLESHOOTING
Vertical Divider
Closely associated with the monitoring process is the Art of Troubleshooting. I believe that troubleshooting is an art and as such cannot be fully taught. The ability to troubleshoot problems requires a sound knowledge of how the equipment operates, and time spent in the engine room. What we provide is a methodology of how to approach problems and how to incorporate critical thinking to reach a solution. Finding the solution is only one half of the problem, a remedy to prevent continued recurrences is the second half.

LEARN COMPRESSOR THEORY
Vertical Divider
The course begins with a thorough review of gas engine or compressor theory. During this time the interaction between systems is established. Mock data sheets are used to indicate possible problems and trends. They are used to generate discussion on what might be the problem and a likely solution. Basic troubleshooting charts from various OEM manuals are also explored. Real-life troubleshooting scenarios based on large gas engines and personal vehicles are used to draw out critical thinking and promote brain storming. Given a problem, the attendees will work in small groups to arrive at a solution. They are then encouraged to explain to the class the process they used to arrive at their final determination.
